Robotic-assisted surgery represents the most advanced minimally invasive surgical option. By dramatically enhancing visualization, precision, control and dexterity, robotic-assisted surgery overcomes the limitations of conventional laparoscopic technology, helping physicians to perform highly complex surgery with increased precision and effectiveness.

At Hoag, robotic-assisted surgery is performed utilizing one of four state-of-the-art da Vinci® Surgical Systems. Each robotic unit consists of an ergonomically designed surgeon’s console, a patient-side cart with four interactive robotic arms, a high-performance vision system and proprietary EndoWrist® Instruments. Powered by state-of-the-art robotic technology, the surgeon’s hand movements are scaled, filtered and seamlessly translated into precise movements controlled exclusively by the surgeon. And in the case of the dual console da Vinci® Si HD Surgical System, two surgeons can work together simultaneously to perform highly complex minimally invasive surgery.

The combination of technological advancements provided by robotic-assisted surgery not only makes the surgery easier to perform, but more importantly, provides a number of benefits to the patient. Patients who undergo robotic surgery experience less post-operative pain, decreased blood loss, a smaller rate of infection and a shorter length of stay in the hospital, which translates to a faster return to normal activities.

Who is a candidate for gynecologic robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery is an option for many gynecologic patients with varying medical conditions, as outlined below. And for those patients who are not candidates for robotic surgery, Hoag’s multidisciplinary team of gynecologic surgeons provides the latest in state-of-the-art minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical options, as well as innovative non-surgical alternatives.

Conditions that may be appropriate for treatment with robotic surgery include:
