Gastric Bypass
Overview
The Gastric Bypass is a proven and more complex procedure, since it is both restrictive and malabsorptive. It produces slightly higher weight loss, but because it is more involved, it carries with it a slightly higher risk of complications.
Patients lose an average of 75% of excess body weight, at a more rapid pace over a 12 to 18 month period (varies by individual).
The Gastric Bypass is appropriate for patients with severe diabetes and/or reflux (ie. GERD).
