Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST)

Overview

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a condition that causes abnormal cells to form in the tissues of the GI tract. GISTs have a wide spectrum of malignant potential and can vary in the degree of severity. They are most commonly found in the stomach or small intestine but can also be found adjacent to the GI tract. Very small GISTs are quite common.
