Crohn's Disease
Overview
Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract, leading to abdominal pain, fatigue, severe diarrhea, weight loss and malnutrition. The resulting inflammation can affect different areas of the digestive tract, and often spreads deep into the layers of affected bowel tissue.
Crohn’s disease can be painful and debilitating, and may lead to life-threatening complications.
While there is no known cure, treatment can greatly reduce its symptoms and even result in long-term remission, enabling many people with the disease to function well.
